MY FIRST CONTENDER FOR THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE NORTH!
The other day, I found myself in the Design Quarter shopping centre on an expedition to purchase some linen. Yes, it does happen to some that the man evaluates options for one's spouse to decide! Anyway, my best decision was to have lunch at Mythos.
I ordered the lunch special of 7 prawns and chips for R95.
Before long, my meal arrived, and my immediate impression was of delight, for the prawns that I expected would be small were, in fact, a good Queen size. The size allowed them to be succulent, with a hint of saltiness underneath a grilled cheesy coating. The contrast between the tenderness of the juicy prawn flesh and the crisp legs meant I'd found a new reason to lick my fingers for this meal just begged a "hands-on" approach.
You've guessed! The prawns were fantastic, but the ultimate secret to the dish was the innocence of the chips. They were fried to perfection, with the golden crispy crust contrasting their soft interior. They were a perfect accompaniment to the prawns, soaking up their flavour and adding texture to each mouthful. Seriously, they were the best chips I've tasted in years.
Finally, the squeezed lemon wedges (that ended up in my glass of water) gave the prawns a little zest in their burst of citrus that masked any undetected oiliness.
It's been some years since I wrote a review but this lunch time special had me reflecting on culinary experiences I enjoyed worldwide whilst I was the head of an international business in the hospitality industry.
