β€‹πŸ“˜ UTM Tracking Case Study

How SAC and E Used Multi-Channel Outreach to Promote the 2025 Auto Conference

🎯 Overview

SA Conferences and Events (SACandE) was contracted to manage and promote the 2025 Auto Conference, an international online Zoom event focused on vehicle safety regulations, with a spotlight on aftermarket LED strip lighting. The event targeted regulatory stakeholders and industry leaders in Brazil, Germany, China, and South Africa.

🌐 Event Format

  • Languages Supported: English, Portuguese, German, Chinese
  • Zoom Channels: Delegates choose their preferred language
  • Website Access:
  • Conference Style:
    • No presentations—delegates read papers in advance
    • Live Q&A panel debates
    • Shared screen with live transcription and interpretation
    • Public chat box + private DM to panelists
    • Live polls and on-record comments
    • Downloadable transcript available anytime

πŸ“£ Outreach Channels

SACandE promoted the event using:

  • TikTok
  • Google Business Profile (GBP)
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • WhatsApp
  • Email
  • Cold Calls

Each channel used a UTM-tagged URL to track traffic to the landing page.

πŸ”— How UTM URLs Sync with Website CTA Buttons

Each UTM-tagged link directs users to the main landing page (/Auto2025/). Once there, users interact with one of three CTA buttons:

  • Book Now → Leads to a sign-up form page
  • Get a Block Booking Quote → Leads to a form capturing delegate count, contact name, email, and phone
  • Learn More → Leads to a flipbook brochure hosted on a separate URL

When a user clicks a CTA button, the original UTM parameters from the outreach link are preserved and passed forward to the destination page. This is done by appending the UTM string to the button’s hyperlink using JavaScript or server-side logic.

πŸ”„ Example Flow:

  • A user clicks the WhatsApp link: https://www.webo.directory/SACandE/Auto2025/?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=message&utm_campaign=Auto2025
  • They land on the main page and click Book Now
  • The button redirects to: https://www.webo.directory/SACandE/Auto2025/book-now/?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=message&utm_campaign=Auto2025

This ensures that:

  • The original traffic source is retained
  • Google Analytics can attribute conversions to the correct outreach channel
  • You can analyze which channels drove which actions

⚠️ Important Note: You will not see the UTM tags displayed on your website page. They are invisible to users and do not affect page layout or content. The tracking data is captured behind the scenes and reported in Google Analytics, where you’ll see source touchpoint frequency under:

  • Acquisition > Campaigns
  • Source/Medium
  • Landing Pages
  • Events or Goals (if configured)

UTM Tracking Case Study – Expert Q&A

Can You Answer These Questions?
❓ What is UTM tracking and why was it used for the 2025 Auto Conference?

UTM tracking uses tagged URLs to identify which outreach channel brought a visitor to a website. SACandE used UTM tracking to measure the effectiveness of TikTok, WhatsApp, Email, Cold Calls, and other platforms in driving traffic and conversions for the 2025 Auto Conference.

❓ How do UTM parameters sync with CTA buttons on the landing page?

When a visitor clicks a UTM-tagged link, the parameters are preserved and passed to the destination page. If they click a CTA button like “Book Now,” the UTM string is appended to the next page URL, allowing Google Analytics to track the full journey.

❓ Where can I see UTM tracking results?

You won’t see UTM tags on the website itself. They’re invisible to users and captured in Google Analytics under Acquisition > Campaigns, Source/Medium, Landing Pages, and Events or Goals.

❓ Which outreach channels performed best?

WhatsApp, Email, and Google Business Profile (GBP) were top performers for direct bookings. Facebook and Instagram drove strong engagement for “Learn More,” while Cold Calls excelled in block bookings with manufacturers.

❓ What were the final CTA engagement results?

Book Now: WhatsApp (103), Email (107), GBP (109), Facebook (111), Instagram (116), Cold Calls (47). Block Booking Quote: Cold Calls (102). Learn More: Public Sector Departments of Transport showed strong interest.
