Wilson Dunster
Wilson Dunster studied Drama at U.C.T and did a post-graduate course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Wilson is a multi award-winning actor who will probably be best remembered as Diehard in the film There’s a Zulu on my Stoep, as the old Jewish gentleman Oom Syd Keyser in the TV series Konings and Torings, Spider in Egoli and the first mine manager Pierre de Villiers in Isidingo.
It is in the theatre however, that his career began in the early 70’s - working with Athol Fugard in productions like Orestes, Dimetos – which premiered at the Edinburgh Main Festival - and Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act at The Royal Court Theatre in London with Yvonne Bryceland and Ben Kingsley, which went on to tour Europe.
He came to Johannesburg in the late 70’s which started a long association with Barney Simon. He played Marat in Marat/Sade for the opening of the Market Theatre in Johannesburg.
Wilson has performed in virtually every theatre in the country.
Before doing Paul Slab’s Art of Charf ( Lady Lonely Hearts) which was written for him and his wife Elize Cawood, film and TV commitments kept him from the stage for 21 years.
Elize Cawood
Elize Cawood started her career as a member of the Performing Arts Council of the Free State (PACOFS) where she played a variety of roles in a wide range of plays.
In 1979 she arrived in Johannesburg as a free-lance actress and did Die van Aardes van Grootoor with Pieter-Dirk Uys at the Market Theatre. Elize is still remembered for her portrayal on stage of Olive Schreiner in Schreiner – a One Woman Play. Another highlight at the Market Theatre was the debut production of The Road to Mecca, directed by Athol Fugard with Yvonne Bryceland and Louis van Niekerk.
Elize was recently seen on the box in The Coconuts 2, Andries Plak on SABC2, and the Kyk-net soap Villa Rosa. She is currently in Isidingo and has just completed shooting Liefling-Die Movie, as well as Die Uwe, Pottie Potgieter, which will be shown on SABC 2 in July 2010. Other well-known productions include Verspeelde Lente, Taxi to Soweto, Konings and Torings, Onder draai die Duiwel rond and An Old Wife’s Tale.
In the last few years, since the advent of the Afrikaans Arts Festivals, she’s done three one-woman shows – Ek is Hier!, Girly se Konstitusie-Kwellings, and Briewe aan ‘n Rooidak.
Elize has won many Theatre and TV Awards.
