Phillip Steven Bentley(Goodie), was born on 29/04/1958, in the heart of Johannesburg in Doornfontien. Goodie and was always a peoples person, “A person for the people”, born in the heart of Apartheid to a single Mom his biggest lesson in life was one of poverty and respect for life! One of five boys, Goodie's second and third biggest lessons, in life came from the Church, being an Alter boy and from his Mother a woman that was the salt of the earth.
He achieved accolades as a soccer player and riding his light generating bicycle to and from practice in the south of Johannesburg he went on to play, coach and create awareness for sports and to the development of sports! Eventually moving on to ”The Randburg Football Club” approached by its committee and members, Goodie was asked to upgrade the club.
Improving facilities as in actual building and development, from his own pocket and by un-selfishly paying and paving the way to future development of the sport became his signature tune. In addition, by assisting members and under privileged kids with membership fees, meals and transportation Goodie earned the respect of many. By “approaching coaches with transport” paid for it at his own expense and by encouraging them in their personal capacities to provide kids with additional coaching lessons he continued to make a mark as a caring sportsman. His contribution to paying some of the disadvantaged coaches enabled them to earn an income, whilst creating opportunity and further developing the sporting skills of the youth. Leaving the club with top facilities he negotiated discounted fees and sponsorships for players creating a foundation for the under privileged, less fortunate to continue having opportunities.
