ABOUT US
Charles Gibbons was born in Zimbabwe in 1957, and was educated and raised in the countryside. His drawing and painting ability was nurtured and developed at an early age and his fascination with wildlife and nature, provided the perfect subject matter.
Before taking up painting professionally in his mid 30's, Charles' development and what he calls his "journey of identity" as an artist had 'safaried' him through both the work and business landscape; on tow as a silent partner in this journey was a trailer inscripted 'artist'.
The overwhelming desire to paint professionally propelled him into a full time career of oils and canvas. This is where, he says,'I've realised that I'm an artist first'. Charles finds that the all encompassing and broad meaning of the word "artist" fits perfectly with the versatility found in his painting style and subject matter.
As much as he places painting wildlife as a passion, from the trailer pops up a variety of subjects in the form of landscapes, contemporary and ethnic, which take him through various exploratory excursions on canvas.
Charles has travelled throughout southern Africa, in particular Zimbabwe and South Africa, exploring the uniqueness of these two great countries.
His love for the African wildlife extends to it's people. He believes that artists and organisations should work hand in hand towards the upliftment of the less fortunate.
Charles has had several one man exhibitions. Both private and corporate collectors have commissioned him on numerous occasions, placing his paintings in homes and offices locally and abroad.
