Rosslyn Micro Flyers - The flight school with a difference
In one word, Microlighting is "Freedom". With Microlights, one does not always need the facilities that the larger certified planes need. Any fair size field can become your aerodrome, and your garage can be your hangar. Your Microlight can follow you to any destination behind your car on a trailer, and your local filling station becomes your fuel supply. With the assistance of a technically approved person, you can be your own mechanic.
Now, if this is not freedom?
This type of flying will not cost you an arm and a leg. The views from up there are out of this world. Skimming past the clouds, flying high, swooping down, simply unwinding and watch the world go by. The sense of freedom is complete as you become part of the machine.
It is because of the lower cost and portability that Microlights has become so popular. Although some accidents do happen, Microlights have an exceptional safety record in South Africa. They are strictly controlled by SACAA and RAASA in the Non-Type Certified aeroplane category under the watchful eye of The Aeroclub of SA and MISASA, which will ensure that the "freedom" remains.
Rosslyn Micro Flyers flight school headed by Marius and Dawie is situated at Kroon airfield next to the Platinum N4 highway between Pretoria and Brits underneath the very famous reporting point in the area, the Red and White radio mast.
The exact co-ordinates are S25 39 32 E 028 00 00. By road, we are a 21 minute drive from Haartbeesport.
The property is well-known and belongs to the Kroon family who operates their successful Gourmet Kroon Chicken businesses from here. If you have not been to a Kroon braai, you have not tasted the best Chicken Flatties yet. Their customers include some of the top Hotels and restaurants in the country, and you might have seen their branded vehicles on the road.
Kroon's hangar facilities are top notch with state of the art surveillance cameras, alarm systems and a full-time caretaker who resides on site. It is home to about 35 different aircraft with limited hangar space available.
The Kroon pilots are a very active bunch. The flying club gets together once a month, normally the first Saturday of every month for a club braai where regular flyaway's get discussed and organised including the ever so popular annual flyaway to Margate.
Students from as far as Rustenburg and Thabazimbi chose to train with us in this beautiful Magalies Meander, Hekpoort and Hartbeespoort Valley area with at least ten dams which are less than a 1hour flight from Kroon. You can take off from Kroon to Bon Accord Dam, Roodeplaat dam, Rust de Winter dam, Klipvoor Dam, Roodekoppies dam, Vaalkop dam, Boskop Dam, Olifantsnek Dam, Buffelspoort dam, Hartebeespoort dam and back to Kroon in less than 3.5 hours in a trike. The spectacular views this area has to offer combined with the not too far away busy airspaces of Lanseria, Grand Central, Wonderboom, Swartkops and Waterkloof provides the best training environment a student can ask for.
Rosslyn Micro Flyers is always busy on weekends with introductory flights to Hartebeespoort, and you are almost guaranteed to see some hot air balloons on the way.
Contact us to be adopted by the Rosslyn Microflyers into our family at Kroon!
