Flying Frontiers was borne out of a passion for flying and the freedom of flying over Africa's wilderness. Based in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to bush flying. With wild coastlines, magnificent mountains and rugged bushveld just minutes' flight away, there is no better area from which to enjoy the beauty of flight.

Craig Lang, the founder of Flying Frontiers, has had a passion for flying for as long as he can remember, and has been involved in various forms of aviation for many years, holding both a PPL and MPL for Weight-Shift Trikes. After a couple of major trike expeditions around South Africa on various trike combinations, he set out to the develop what he saw as the perfect expedition trike.

Part of the planning around the new trike design involved developing a new 4 stroke, 100-130HP powerplant. We needed to find an affordable, yet reliable and economical engine and drive system to power our aircraft. A leading aeronautical engineering company was appointed to assist in the development of the engine and reduction gear, and from modest ambitions, our development has now resulted in the Skywalker Fuel injected 135HP motor, which is almost complete with testing and should be ready to be unveiled towards the end of 2013.

The Valkyrie trike has been under development for more than 18 months and will be shown publicly when we have completed our testing and are satisfied with the end result, and have the relevant approval from the authorities. The prototype undercarriage is at an advanced stage of development, and we hope to have it ready for test flying before the end of 2013. Due to a few improvements and changes made to the Skywalker engine, the Valkyrie project has been delayed a few months, but we are determined to complete the aircraft as soon as possible.

Savage Bobber

As Bush Flying is our passion, it was a natural progression to find the ultimate bush plane for Africa. This search eventually led us to the SAVAGE aircraft range, and it is a great privilege to be trusted with the Agency for these aircraft in South Africa. We have placed an order for a Bobber to be used as a demonstrator, an ideal aircraft for our African conditions. Open cockpit and exceptional STOL capabilities along with the large Tundra tyres make this plane an explorer's dream. This aircraft will be available for demonstration flights in late 2013, and will also be showcased around South Africa at various aviation events.

Flying Frontiers also secured the southern African rights to the REVO Trike as well as the Reflex Wings manufactured by Evolution Trikes in the USA. These cutting edge trikes and wings are at the forefront of microlight design and performance, and we are proud to be able to offer them to the South African market. The REFLEX wings will be offered as standard on all our trikes (REVO and VALKYRIE).
