Message from the 2025 MISASA Committee

Our sincere appreciation to ALL members who attended the 2025 AGM of MISASA

That was hosted VIRTUALLY via MS-TEAMS on Wednesday, 30th July 2025 @ 18h30

ABOUT MISASA
MISASA is the National Flying Organisation representing all pilots flying Weight Shift Controlled Microlights (WCM),
Conventionally Controlled Microlights (CCM), and Light Sport Aeroplanes (LSA). In addition, we have expanded our
representation to include production-built NTCA aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of up to 1,663 kg,
as outlined in our latest approved Manual of Procedures (MOP). This expansion also allows MISASA to represent gyrocopter pilots.

Our Vision
“To champion and safeguard the boundless freedom of recreational flight—
ensuring every aviator in South Africa can soar, explore, and connect for generations to come.”

Our Mission
Recognise and celebrate aviation excellence through appropriate awards.
Promote aviation safety and airmanship among members.
Maintain strong communication channels with members via print and electronic media.
Host events that inspire, engage, and develop the recreational aviation community.
Share industry expertise by pooling experience and providing advice from aviation professionals.

Why Join MISASA?
MISASA exists to serve and benefit its members. Over the years, we have played a key role in influencing
legislation governing recreational flying in South Africa, striving always to guide its development to best serve our
members’ interests. We provide a valuable source of information for recreational pilots and actively organise or support
flying events that promote skill development alongside the enjoyment and social aspects of aviation. With our inclusion
of NTCA representation up to an MTOW of 1,663 kg, MISASA covers production-built NTCA aircraft such as the
Bushbaby Safari, Jabiru 4 series, Sling 2 & 4, Vans Aircraft, and more. This also ensures that recreational gyrocopter
pilots can maintain legal compliance by becoming members of MISASA.
Please note that our MOP explicitly excludes aerobatic aircraft, gliders, and balloons.

Our Advocacy Role
MISASA acknowledges aviation excellence through the awarding of honours and promotes safety through active
communication channels, encouraging airmanship. As a financially contributing member of the Aero Club of South Africa,
we support their mandate to engage with key stakeholders such as the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI)
through CIMA, and SASCOC.As an Approved Recreation Organisation (ARO), we represent and advocate for our members
with industry stakeholders, extending beyond the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) and the Airworthiness Industry
Investigation Division (AIID). We engage in official platforms including CARCom, the ASO sub-committee, the Industry Liaison Forum,
and other relevant workgroups. MISASA is governed by an elected Committee operating following the requirements set out
in our approved ARO Manual of Procedures. Sharing African skies with diverse aircraft types, MISASA remains focused on issues
important to microlight, LSA, Very Light Aircraft (VLA), and gyrocopter pilots.
