Domba is a new discovery in the hospitality stakes.
For business executive, hotelier, adventurer and artist Henk van Rooyen, Domba Self-Catering Executive Suites are a dream come true.
Fuelled by a passion for art, a love of the Venda and Shangaan people, and an appreciation of all things creative, his ambition has always been to host travellers and to provide a warm experience at an irresistible destination.
Not for him an impersonal guest lodge, apartment or stereotypical hotel, rather a cosy, inviting venue, where guests may stay for days, weeks, months - or even years.
The History of Domba
Recently, he realised a niche in hospitality requirements, an urgent need for high quality self-catering accommodation in Johannesburg, for both tourists and corporate clients wishing to enjoy four-star service and comforts of home when travelling.
He found the perfect location. “This is going to be a hidden jewel,” he thought when viewing an unpretentious block of 1970s apartments.
Henk the adventurer set about a magical metamorphosis, transforming the building into Domba luxurious self-catering executive accommodation suites. Henk’s love of art permeates the décor and ambience of every room, creating space, a sense of discovery and comfort.
The name ‘Domba’ derives from The Domba, an initiation dance performed by girls of the VhaVenda tribe of Limpopo, close to the area where Henk spent his “enriching” formative years.
