Those of you reading this, who know anything about addiction (alcohol or drug related), no matter how much or how little, will understand how deeply destructive it is. Not only for the addicts (who often are oblivious to what is physically and mentally happening to them) but even more so, for the addicts families who try to help them.
A feeling of hopelessness by those close to the addict pervades.
How are we Different?
The creators of the Eden Recovery Centre in Johannesburg, Athy and her husband Steve Le Roux, have conceived, built and nurtured, with their team, an environment that has delivered a staggering success rate.
The normal industry rate of recovery is estimated to be around 3% (Professor Malaka, The University of Limpopo). However, in the past 12 months 72% of the addicts in our care have remained clean, a remarkable achievement.
How have we achieved this? Eden offers a very different environment from most other rehabilitation facilities. Apart from the highly experienced councillors, medical team and the medical facilities, Eden has been designed to exude a sense of warmth, personal security, offering addicts an environment which is conducive to healing the mind, where they can regain their dignity and get their life back on track for, as Athy says,
“Without dignity, without hope, you can’t heal and rebuild your life.”
Family Involvement and Support
Everyone at Eden understands that addiction does not exist in isolation but affects all those that come into contact with addiction. Families and friends are often left feeling angry, hurt, bewildered and “out of their depth.’’ Recovery therefore, is often a “family process” and for that reason we also run a family support programme when required.
Eden also has the highest standard of professional support including:
Psychiatrists
Medical Doctors
Addiction Counsellors
Clinical Physiologists
Social Workers
24 Hour Nursing
Relapse Prevention Programme
Aftercare and Recuperative Programme
Eden’s team work with the addict in a therapeutic calm environment, helping to rebuild the addict from within. As Steve adds,
“If the environment is chaotic, how can the brain repair?”
