A True Story
Once upon a time, 1989 to be exact, there was a little homespun business on Greenmarket Square. A couple of bright sparks, four helpers, a garage, some sewing machines and a lot of inspiration turned this tiny idea into a global company.
In 2001, Naartjie SA and the worldwide rights to the brand were purchased by Naartjie USA. Naartjie now boasts 27 stores in South Africa, 55 in the USA and 7 in the Middle East with more to come. The very successful e-commerce sites are looking into expanding into new territories and should be in Canada, Australia and South America by end 2012. All stores carry the same design ethos, from branding to shop fitting. A much loved recipe that has made us many firm fans.
All the ranges are originated on South African soil, with many of the original team still in place. Our design teams are constantly travelling ensuring Naartjie designs are on trend and have global appeal.
A Naartjie (pronounced nar-chee) is a small sweet citrus fruit grown locally in South Africa.
The Naartjie clothing brand is unique, affordable, natural, soft and functional. The brand, like it's name, has a flavour and style all of it's own. Right from the very beginning, Naartjie has been all about kids. It's playful, fun, active, bright, colourful, natural, fresh and fashion forward.
Our brand vision spreads right through every bit of the process; from design, to fabric choice, to garment construction, to quality control and all the way into the friendly Naartjie stores.
Naartjie generates l0 fabulous ranges a year, with new prints, fresh colours and current trends for kids from newborn, up to ten years old. With the latest fashion silhoettes, beautifully made shoes right up to hair accessories – there is something for everyone.
These regular collections, along with frequent fun promotions, make for a really good reason to visit our stores, or look out for us on line.
Naartjie garments are made almost entirely from 100% cotton, pre –shrunk and garment dyed. Garment dying means that the clothes are dyed after they've been stitched up. It is a more expensive process, but you get much more vibrant colour this way. The clothes have a softer and more complex feel because of the unique washing process that we use, and it also means they are 100% pre-shrunk.
At Naartjie, we are obsessed with quality, so you can rest assured – the clothes you buy will be handed down from brother to brother, generation to generation.
We absolutely adore what we do, and we hope you have as much fun wearing our clothes as we have making them for you.
