The thing is this.... with framing, you take something fairly ordinary and, with a bit of out-the-box thinking you turn it into something FABULOUS. In fact, because it's so rewarding and satisfying you can get hooked onto framing anything and everything. One of our customers frames theatre tickets, vinyl records, bubble gum wrappers, Audrey Hepburn photos, shopping bags from London stores and a heap of other art and memorabilia. It personalises her home and takes away that Turnkey-Décor look that can happen if you go shopping in furniture and décor stores.
Cast your eye around your home. Think about what you had done 8 years ago – the mount boards were fashionable then but very likely the colour is are dated now or else faded and boring. Imagine something clean and simple but L A R G E R...... The art becomes the focus and the mount is not all matchy-matchy with the furniture. It spruces up your room with very little expense. Pull things out of your cupboards – Gran's embroidery, Baby's christening robe, the tiny engraved silver spoon no in use - take a look with new eyes.
Be bold – a lot of people are inclined to do the safe thing – neutral colours, narrowish frames and small mount boards. It is safe but it LOOKS safe. Take the plunge and do something spectacular – BOX the frame, WEIGHT the bottom with mount board, leave a WIDE SPACE all round the art work, FLOAT IT. Use inner slips and mounts, cut V-GROOVES into your mount, and use a darker colour than you would have thought. Use RED. An eclectic mix of different frames and styles can look wonderful. Also good is a very monochromatic look – black and white photos, mounts frames etc. with similar size frames.
There are also so many ways of displaying your art and memorabilia. Groups usually work well – better than one piece centred on one wall. Obviously there is always the exception that proves the rule. Also a mix of art, photos, mirrors, special treasures etc. can all appear in one room.
Come in and talk to us. Have a cup of coffee. We love a chat about where to hang, how to hang, what colours work, what sizes work.
