In August 1987 brothers, Aggie, Anton and Chris Argyrou formed Warrior Paints & Coatings (Proprietary) Limited. Warrior Paints commenced trading at the company’s first plant in Rosslyn, North of Pretoria, South Africa. In 1989 Artemi Petrou joined the company as a shareholder.
1991 was special in Warrior Paint’s history, as its company owned pilot retail paint store was opened in Arcadia, Pretoria. This flagship store was later relocated to Gezina, Pretoria. Warrior Paints Gezina proved to be an immediate success and as a result Warrior Paints decided to expand the retail division by opening more stores.
As a result of the success of the first DIY store, Warrior Paints decided to open more retail Warrior Paints and DIY Stores to market the Warrior Paints brand so that retail paint would become more accessible to clients.
In 2000, Warrior Paints introduced its Franchising concept into the company’s strategy. A research programme, together with a feasibility study was embarked on, which determined that the Warrior Paints Franchise concept was the route to follow.

After intensive research, Warrior Paints introduced its own range of wood care products and as a result the WoodTreat brand was created.
1st Choice Paints Brand was launched in 2007 as an alternative range to the Warrior Paints Brand.
At the beginning of 2008, Warrior Paints established its Premium Brands. Special, exclusive paint buckets were designed for these premium quality products.
