The framing process is more complicated than you think. It requires specialized tools and machinery put a picture frame together. All our work is done on our premises in Johannesburg, South Africa
Once you have come into the shop and chosen a frame for your painting, we check if we have stock of that frame, otherwise it is ordered from our supplier.
The frame is measured and cut at a 45 degree angle on a special Miter Guillotine.
Then the frame is carefully joined using an UnderPinner (as seen in the pic on the left). This puts an industrial staple into the back of the frame.
The glass is then measured and cut using a Glass Cutter ( we offer normal or non-reflective glass for your framing). Clear perspex is used for more durable frames (but it is a lot more expensive).
The mount board is cut using a Mat Cutter (see pic on right). The edge can be cut straight or bevel depending on you preference. We also have an oval/round Mat Cutter.
The firm Masonite board is then cut to size, to go on the back of the frame.
The frame is finally put together, and screws and wire attached for hanging the frame.
Another important tool used during framing is an Air Compressor which blows away all dirt and dust to keep the glass and frame from getting any scratches.
And you simply hang your frame and admire the artwork.
