From its roots in 1990, Poynting Antennas has grown to become a substantial supplier of advanced antennas. The holding company, Poynting Holdings is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange’s (JSE) AltX. Poynting Antennas has two main business areas: Commercial, which manufactures low cost antennas for wireless networking and cellular end–user antenna applications, and RFID) and Defence and Specialised which focuses on Electronic Warfare antennas mainly for direct or indirect export to international defence customers.
Poynting Antennas Defence and Specialised Division specialises in the design, development, manufacture and sales of antennas and related RF equipment. We focus on military and specialised antennas for Direction Finding, Monitoring, Jamming, Counter-RCIED and Communication applications, Log Periodic Dipole Arrays (LPDA) and supporting RF electronics.

1997 – Poynting Innovations (Pty) Ltd founded
• Radio Frequency Identification Tag (RFID) and advanced specialised antenna design
2000 – Poynting Antennas (Pty) Ltd was formed, moved to Wynberg and started manufacturing
2005 – Strategic Focus on:
• The Commercial Division (Cellular and wireless data antennas)
• The Defence & Specialised Division (Electronic warfare (EW), direction finding (DF), military and specialised antennas)
2007 – Poynting Europe GmbH launched
• Sales organisation in Munich, Germany, servicing all our European clients
2007 – Poynting Direct (Pty) Ltd launched
• Poynting products sales in Southern Africa (sales to end users)
2008 – Poynting lists on the JSE
• 9 July 2008, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE): POY
• Raised R20 million capital for growth
2008 – Poynting acquires SAAB Grintek Antennas’ commercial section
• Status: transfer of activities
2011 – Commercial Division moved to new offices located in Samrand
• Poynting Defence & Specialised Division remains in Wynberg
