Luigi D’Ovidio was born in Trivento, Italy on 8th January 1940 and immigrated to South Africa as a teenager. He immediately applied his skills and abilities to found the empire which he proudly boasts today. As a 22year old in 1962 he was appointed Chief Mechanic for South African Champion, Ernest Pieterse. Luigi also drove his own Lotus 21 with a Climax engine in local races. During 1963 Luigi joined forces with Doug Sourier and between them they designed the LDS Formula One vehicle.
Shortly afterwards, in 1970, Luigi founded Italian Panelbeater’s, at 434 Main Reef Road, Denver, where it still flourishes today. Thanks to Luigi’s efforts and contacts in the business world, many Companies and individuals make use of Italian Panelbeater’s services. This was the start of Italian Car’s Group.
Still not content with his endeavours, in 1992 Luigi initiated the first Iveco Dealership in South Africa, which he named Italian Commercial. This dealership is situated at 437 Main Reef Road, Denver, and is now the flagship enterprise of Luigi’s commercial empire. Italian Commercial is renowned throughout the transport industry as a centre of mechanical excellence. The highly qualified staff are fully trained through the Iveco scheduled training program and have all necessary special tools and information at their fingertips. All manner of diesel servicing and repair is undertaken under the scrutiny of the General Manager, Marco DaSilva, who is a specialist engine rebuilder.
Italian Commercial also offers 24-Hour call out service and offers Iveco Parts delivery to both new and existing clients.
The Sales Staff are fully trained in the knowledge of vehicles from 2.5 ton Panel Vans to 500HP truck tractors at realistic affordable prices.
