HISTORY
Alfagranite (PTY) Ltd was founded in 1999, when two managers named Johan Potgieter (Pottie) and Frikkie van Eck, bought the MTN cellular department of Senwes Beperk. Alfagranite is the name of the cc that was bought, but became the household name with the MTN personnel. It’s decided never to be changed because off its uniqueness.
Senwes Beperk is an agriculture corporation and a huge supplier of agriculture input to the farmers in the North-West and Free State provinces. The cell phone kiosks in the Senwes trade stores were on that stage marginal and did not really fit in with the agriculture business.
According to Pottie the buying of the business started as an idea and developed into lengthy discussions and negotiations. Pottie and Frikkie resigned and converted the business by the rationalising of the kiosks, central administration and renewed focus on client services.
In April 2002 Van Eck sold his shares in the business to Adolph Swart and moved to George, also in the cell phone industry. With the new blood the business developed further and grew in the North-West province. Although Senwes won a national small dealers prize in 1999, was Alfagranite 2nd in 2002 and in 2003 3rd as MTN SP’s dealers of the year. In 2004 and 2005 was Alfagranite appointed as the best MTN dealer in the Northern region and in 2006 nominated as the best dealer. Many other achievements followed. We are one of only 3 MTN national dealers in South Africa.
