ABOUT US
The Centre for Autism and Related Disorders in USA (C.A.R.D) are world leaders in autism treatment (www.centerforautism.com). The Star Academy is an affiliate C.A.R.D. site and provides education programs based on the principles of ABA to children who present with:
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD);
- Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD or PDD NOS);
- Aspergers;
- Language delay;
- Challenging behaviours;
- Developmental delay in the areas of communication, cognition or social interaction;
- ADHD;or
- Any other related disorder to Autism.
The services provided at the Star Academy follows the C.A.R.D. Model. Each child attending the Academy is assigned a Local Supervisor or C.A.R.D. Supervisor who conducts an initial assessment and program design. The Supervisor designs the child’s individual program tailored to address the specific delays and/or challenges of that specific child. A team of trained ABA tutors are assigned to work with each child under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisor.
ABA Services are provided to children Monday to Sunday and we operate 7 days a week. Depending on the specific requirements of each child, recommendations of the child’s Speech Therapist and Occupational Therapist are incorporated into the program.
Academy, at home, in the community, at regular school or remedial school or elsewhere depending on the specific needs of the child. Some children attend regular or remedial school in the morning and attend the Academy or have home based sessions in the afternoon. Some children attend school with a facilitator provided by the Academy and some children attend the Academy full time.
Our ABA tutors, receive training, supervision and mentorship from the C.A.R.D. Supervisors who are trained experts in the field.
Children attending the Academy vary in age ranging from 20 months old to 16 years old. The Star Academy is based in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban.
