UNICA School for Autism is a Public Benefit organization, that provides affordable, specialised education to learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder between the ages of 3 and 18. Situated in Menlo Park, our school caters for 107 learners annually.
Although most learners come from Gauteng, there are also ones who come from KwaZulu Natal, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. These learners have varying degrees of remedial problems, learning difficulties and/or intellectual disabilities.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe in the worth, dignity and unique character of the individual. The school strives to provide quality, structured, disciplined education and training, limited only by the ability of the learner. An embracing environment of tolerance and understanding must be sought after to ensure that all feel accepted and secure.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
- To meet the challenge of ASD (PDD) by an all-encompassing learner centered approach:
- To be actively involved in networking and a comprehensive trans-disciplinary team approach with reference to the identification and diagnosis of ASD.
- To facilitate an embracing, therapeutic, supportive and psycho-educational environment which operates in cohesion.
- To project a clear focus on learning, teaching and support.
- To provide access to a broad based curriculum,
- directive support, as well as auxiliary services or programmes to all stakeholders.
- To be acknowledged as a resource centre for training and research programmes.
- To provide food, meals and residential facilities for learners in the hostel.
OUR VISION
UNICA School's vision is to be acknowledged as a respected, highly-rated world class centre of expertise, offering appropriate and an all-encompassing professional service to learners with Autism Spectrum Disorders, their families, caregivers and other stakeholders.
It is believed that to achieve the aims of the school, the staff should be motivated and should receive present and regular inset training to become experts in the field of ASD, dedicated to the physical and spiritual welfare of learners, as well as being committed and loyal to the profession and the stakeholders.
