Sum-It-Maths was established in 1996 by Anne Youell. After teaching for the GDE for 20 years, she started with 2 pupils in a small office in the Bryan Park Shopping Centre. At this stage the programme was for primary school maths only.
Anne’s daughter Tamlyn, joined her as a partner after completing her honors degree in 2002. The need for more tutors became necessary and so, university students were trained and employed to join the team.
As the pupils completed primary school, they were desperate for Sum-It-Maths to carry on and tutor them through high school. A Sum-It-Maths high school section was established, growing in grades of seniority year by year. The first group of metrics were with us in 2004.
Anne’s younger daughter Kelly after completing her degree, joined Sum-It-Maths as a partner in 2005.
Many of the pupils spent their school career with Sum-It-Maths becoming part of “the family” and returned to reap the benefits as tutors when they started university. These students were most successful in tutoring the children as they knew how the system worked.
After Tamlyn and Kelly married and had children of their own, it became difficult to cope with teaching hours and managing family life.In September 2009 Senior Sum-It-Maths was bought by Katy Haralambous. Every part of life has a season and this was the right time. Katy came in with such enthusiasm and great support from so many wonderful tutors who had committed to staying on. Once again the transformation was perfect.
