Mozart Academy was established in 2012 in Pretoria, north of the Magaliesberg, South Africa. It is a non-profit company that started off as a means of creating a school to fulfill a need that was identified by speech and occupational therapists, as well as parents of kids with global developmental delays. It was soon realised that a great need existed for such a school that incorporated the normal school curriculum with the programs developed by the speech and occupational therapists during normal therapy sessions. By incorporating the therapy concepts, ideas and techniques, directly into the school curriculum, the kids receive a more holistic approach to their development and education. Through the creation of a unique program for each individual, the intention is that these kids eventually outgrow the school and be incorporated into a main stream school.
The Mozart Academy also has the ambitious goal of uplifting the community in general. These include concepts and ideas, such as support groups for parents with kids with special needs, training of adults with special needs, cooperation with other institutions with similar goals and ideals, etc.
- With the help of passionate and dedicated teachers and therapists, we strive to realize the full potential of each child.
- Each child has a unique program, developed just for him/her, that integrates his/her therapies with the school curriculum (e.g. Oxford, Platinum, CAPS). Proven, multi-disciplinary programs such as SNAP (Special Needs Adapted Program), Tiny Handz, American Sign Language (ASL), PCS (picture communication system), PECS (picture exchange communication system), independent learning, etc. are used.
- Therapy at school: ABA (applied behaviour analysis), animal therapy and physiotherapy.
- Frequent evaluation ensures that the programs are continuously adapted to reach the child’s potential.
- Small classes (six to eight children) with a teacher and assistant ensure that each child receives the necessary attention.
- Loving and caring environment provides the emotional comfort needed for optimal learning.
- English and Afrikaans classes.
- Todlers (2-5 years) and grade R-12.
- Weekly progress reports.
- On-line, interactive monitoring of your child’s progress.
- We strive to accommodate every child that wants to call Mozart Academy their school (global developmental delay, Autism, Cri du chat syndrome, Asperger syndrome, Downs’ syndrome, etc.).
