GetOn Skills Development Centre trains hundreds of ambitious but unemployed people a year in Pretoria West (Atteridgeville, Saulsville, Lotus and Brazzaville). Through skill-specific and market-related training we strive to develop individuals economically, socially and emotionally in order for them to become self-supportive and financially independent; to live happier lives and to provide for their families.
Did you know that only 28.9% of the South African population completed secondary education (Grade 12/matric), while 8.6% have not had any schooling at all? (Census 2011). South Africans are faced with a major problem of escalating levels of unemployment (24.7% in the third quarter of 2013). This high unemployment clearly contributes to the tensions that this wonderful country still faces on a daily basis.
When you are stuck in a hopeless situation of poverty and unemployment, it is not easy to keep believing in a better future.
Creating jobs and reducing unemployment are key social challenges in South Africa. Therefore in 2006 the Dutch GetOn Foundation came up with an ambitious plan to offer practical skills training and help ambitious people from the community find paid work or start-up their own businesses.
