He completed an art teachers' training course in 1996.
He has taught art at primary, secondary and tertiary levels and has participated in both solo and group exhibitions in South Africa as well as in London, Barcelona, Chicago, Tallahassee, Pennysylvania, France and Germany.
John has donated many of his art works to be used to raise funds for charities such as Lifeline, Red Nose Day, Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, AIDS Foundation and the Rhino Foundation.
John has devoted a great deal of time and energy to teaching art to previously disadvantaged children.
John has two daughters, aged 8 and 10, who continue to inspire him and open his eyes up to a new way of seeing and being.
