Emelia Cillie-Gilson drew her first Artist lines under famed Artist David Botha. She also received intensive training from the artists Suzette Laten and M.E. Schler. She quickly developed into an Artist in her own rights.
From 1998 she started as an Art Instructor at the Art for All Art School in co-operation with the department of Environment and Culture. In 1999 she together with Suzette Laten received an award from the ATKV for their contributions towards developing Art.
Emelia taught Art to Grade 4 – 7 pupils during 2003 at the Brackenfell Primary School.
Emelia took Art for All over since 2006. She is an Art Instructor to Adults and children. Her Art Students won various competitions ea. Santam, ATKV, C.P.W.A.A, Eisteddfod, Cape Gate Junior and Senior Art Competitions. One of her students won a bursary for further studies from Shoprite.
The Art for All Art School won the 2010 and 2012 Cape Town Eisteddfod Trophy for the school with the most diplomas, – between 90 – 100% [for their sculptures and paintings]. They also won 7 gold medals and cash prizes in the eisteddfod of 2012.
The Publishers Maskew & Miller used one of Emelia’s paintings as a front page for a literature book.
Emelia exhibits at local as well as out of town exhibitions. She also took part in the 2007 KKNK Art Festival in Oudtshoorn. A few of her works found their way to overseas homes. Emelia also do assignments for private as well as the cooperative world. She often provides paintings for Interior Decorators. “I prefer to work with Mix medium. I paint whatever triggers my imagination”.
