About US
For you, the Viva Espana restaurant will “killa da bull” – well, not quite - but they’ll certainly serve up a mouth watering Filete con chocolate picante de Miró (Miro’s famous chocolate chilli fillet steak).
In Midrand (midway between Johannesburg and Pretoria), Viva Espana has been celebrating Spanish culture and cuisine for over 35 years – the rich gourmet tradition that has brought the world tapas, paella, calamares, gazpacho, chorizo sausages, sangria and more. Add some flambouyant Spanish cabaret dancers, fiery flamenco and good Spanish vino and you’re set for a party of which the conquistadores would be proud.
Now, restaurateur MIRO , has completely revamped this Spanish maiden. “We took a 35 year-old lady and gave her some silicone, botox and most importantly a lot of soul… we’ve introduced a perfectly designed kitchen and even a bar set under a natural vineyard that makes you feel like you’re sitting on an hacienda on the South of Spain…”
A private balcony overlooks a natural wooden dance floor under a stunning 1000kg chandelier. Vibrant warm natural colours predominate throughout with a 10 meter high collage of paintings on the wall of the main dining area.
While the ambience warms your heart, traditional culinary delights such as Valencia Paella and Zarzuella Catalana will certainly warm your tummy. As in most Spanish eateries, seafood is king with the likes of line and shellfish as well as the more exotic Arzuela de pescado (a symphony of seafood on a tomato, brandy, wine sauce) and Pulpo a la carbon (octopus in a tomato, chili wine stew).
Poultry and meat mains include duck, lamb and pork – the Don Luis y su ojo de la costilla de cerdo is the chef’s renowned pork rib eye with a creamy chorizo sauce. At Viva Espana, you’ll also meet the Girl from Ibiza – a marinated grilled chicken breast served with avo mousse, almonds, basil and fresh greens.
The popular Tapas Bar caters for quick lunches with daily specials. Viva Espana also caters for vegetarians and take aways. Miro’s stunning Spanish wine collection takes up 30 percent of his wine cellar with plenty of good local cultivars filling the rest. Alternatively, cocktails such as “Hemmingway’s suicide”, good South African beers and soft drinks make for perfect sundowners.
Able to seat up to 320 people, Viva Espana is great for both corporate and private function such as parties and weddings.
Viva Espana is both family and wheelchair friendly. Those looking forward to either indoor or alfresco dining are advised to book. Cabaret dancers entertain from Wednesday to Saturday evenings.
