Lexi's Kouzina is the product of a lifetime of cooking, eating and celebrating life and family.
Some of my clearest and earliest memories of my family are around the dinner table, of both my yiayiathes ('grandmothers' in Greek) busying themselves in the kitchen, lovingly making for us recipes that had travelled with them to South Africa over oceans.
Each grandmother was well known for their respective specialities. Among many other dishes, Yiayia Stella made the absolute best kourambiedes (shortbread cookies), unmatched by any I have tasted since and Yiayia Thoxa made incredible fasolatha (beans).
The alchemy of cooking is such that just about anyone can do it; it is an ancient art, an old memory that has been passed down to us from the first humans sitting around a fire. This is perhaps why whilst both of my yiayiathes were self-taught (and very reluctant cooks in the beginning), they produced amazing food that I can still taste when I think of the wonderful lunches and dinners we shared together.
So please join us in eating the delicious traditional food of my yiayathes as well as our own additions to the family cookbook!
