The club was founded on the 19th December 1938 under the chairmanship of the then Town Clerk of Johannesburg, Mr. I. Marks with some 1 200 members.
Activities at the club commenced at headquarters being Patterson Park, with various sections being spread all over the city. It was only in 1951 that the club moved to its present premises, with the existing main clubhouse being a famhouse which was owned by the Geldenhuys family.
We as a Club have become a ‘Hotspot’ for annual events like the 702 Walk the Talk, The Jozi Craft Beer Fest, The iThemba/Avon Walkathon as well as several concerts like ‘Large on the Lawn’ and ‘Park Life’.
The vision of the Club is to maintain its rich heritage of being a diverse sports club offering a wide variety sports codes to the local community as well as the City of Johannesburg employees.
We cater for the young and the old and welcome all that would like to join and keep up the traditions of the club.
The mission of the club and more specifically the sub-sections is to see their respective sports code at the top of their game in the various leagues that they compete in. We have very strong Tennis, Soccer, Rugby and Cricket sections who all compete at top league levels. We would like to see all our sports codes competing with the best in their leagues and this can be done with our superb facilities, great coaches and enthusiasm of all involved.
