We started POPArt in March 2011, with the mission to create something great for Performing Arts in Joburg.
As “graduate” performers, we know how tough it is to find work and keep working in the industry. We also know that when we focus on this aspect the fun gets sucked right out of it or we forget why we chose to get into this industry… and when we’re not working… well, how do we keep our muscles tight?
So, in our downtime, us three actresses created POPArt, a space to practice, create, meet people and perform.
POPArt is, therefore, a place, and a movement, aimed at developing the infrastructure for performing arts in Johannesburg. Our vision is to create a home, a space where performers can flex and hone skills, generate and develop ideas and network. While we offer a venue where everyone in the performing arts can rehearse and workshop, we offer a really intimate theatre space where we can do what we love: Perform!
As lovers of the theatre, we are also on a mission to change the way that people think about theatre. We have established a reputation as the home of brand new quirky and experimental theatre content. If you love theatre, or if you’re still unsure, POPArt is a bite size theatre experience and a great night out!!!
POPArt is a venue ideally positioned for hire for:
- Castings
- Rehearsals (dance/ theatre/ corporate theatre)
- Musical performances / Album launches
- Corporate workshops / training
- Team building
Lights & PA system as well as mirrors are available for use when hiring the venue.
As an events venue, the venue lends itself to intimate events. Catering can be arranged through any of our nearby restaurants. Entertainment, MCs, actors, musicians etc can be arranged via us through our extensive network of talented individuals.
