Our success is attributed to our highly dedicated and committed staff, intensive therapy, family counselling and providing addicts with the tools to reverse the emotional ramifications that have destroyed their self-esteem and confidence. The destruction of their self-esteem and confidence results in depression, worthlessness and self-hatred, which so often puts the addict back onto the road of further substance abuse.
The environment that houses the services, counselling and medical facilities plays a huge part in Eden’s success rate – a success rate that’s attracted addicts and their loved ones from South Africa, Africa and overseas.
The situation with regards to substance abuse is best summed up in this quote by Dr David Bayever of the CDA, a government drug control organisation:
“The drug problem in South Africa remains very serious with drug usage being twice the world norm in most cases…and we are only dealing with what we know about…this is only the tip of the iceberg.”
The results of drug addiction particularly long-term addiction are dismal. Drug addiction destroys every aspect of the addict’s life, leaving him lonely, isolated and emotionally depressed. Family and friends no longer see the addict in a positive light, and repairing the broken trust is difficult, if not impossible. Increased isolation and financial disruption propel the downward spiral until the addict is left only with the drugs.
