The South African Gold Coin Exchange is committed to taking forward the message of peace and supporting the ongoing legacy of the South African Peace Laureates. For this reason we have established relationships with the Nobel Institute, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the FW de Klerk Foundation, with each institution benefiting from royalties generated by The South African Gold Coin Exchange.
The Nobel Institute was founded in order to assist the Nobel Committee in its task of deciding who is to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. It was stated in Alfred Nobel’s will that the Peace Prize should be awarded by a committee appointed by the Norwegian Storting (Parliament), even though the other Nobel prizes are awarded by specialist committees based in Sweden.
The Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Storting was thus set up in August 1897 and the Nobel Institute founded on February 1,1904.
