ABOUT US
Roykin is the Affix and kennel name belonging to Sheila Hodkin who lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Although I grew up in England, I only came across Smooth Haired Fox Terriers when I came to Africa in the early 1970's. My father-in-law a Veterinarian in Salisbury in Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe) owned Fox Terriers and I was immediately impressed with them. As I was living in a flat in Johannesburg at the time I couldn't own a dog, but as soon as we bought a house I purchased my first Smooth Haired Fox Terrier from Tilla Paterson of the Tilgrove Kennels - Tilgrove Fair Lady, who went on to become a champion. By now I was hooked on "Smooths" and on a trip to England purchased a male Oxonside Warpaint of Roykin who was imported into South Africa. "Oxo" also became a champion and was the sire of several other Champions. In the early days of showing dogs I was greatly helped by Don and Sally Minaar of the Edgware Kennels in Pretoria. My "Roykin" Affix is a combination of my maiden name (Royal) and my married name (Hodkin).
Later on I was greatly helped and encouraged by Michael Hughes-Halls who had imported two top winning Smooths from the UK (Ch. Navada Home Soldier, Best in Show at the Smooth Fox Terrier Association (UK) Ch. Show 1991 and his litter brother Ch. Navada Homechat at Mykals who did a lot of winning and sired many champions in South Africa. Both dogs are to be found in Roykin Pedigrees.
I am a founder member of the Smooth Fox Terrier Club of Transvaal and was the Secretary/Treasurer of that Club for 16 years. I am presently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Transvaal Terrier Club.
