ABOUT US
The home cares for 85 aged and frail people and those with Alzheimer’s & Dementia, in a homely atmosphere. It is located in Orange Grove and was originally a convalescent home serving the old Johannesburg hospital. It was converted into an Old Age Home in the 1920’s and refurbished in 1994 when a new frail care unit was built.
In 2001 the home became a section 21 company, comprising a small board of dedicated people who give their time voluntarily to run the Home. There are 38 rooms, 26 frail care beds and an Alzheimer’s centre. There are also 8 rooms in a separate building for people who are still capable of looking after themselves but need domestic help, laundry facilities and meals.
Staff
Care is provided by a qualified matron and sisters, together with staff nurses, assistant nurses and caregivers. A doctor attends those who do not wish to have their own private medical consultant. The Home is managed by a general manager who has support staff comprising a matron, accountant, secretary, catering manager, kitchen and cleaning staff and security personnel.
Security
The complex is walled with an electric fence, surveillance cameras and one secured gate with security guards. A security company which services the area, is also contracted to look after the home.
