Visiomed Eye Laser Clinic was the brain child of the world renowned ophthalmic surgeon Dr. Michiel S Kritzinger. He was recognized as one of the most experienced and skilled refractive and Lasik eye surgeons around the world. His contribution included Lasik Nomogram software development and holds US patents on instruments and Lasik techniques.
Dr. Michiel S Kritzinger was the first to introduce the magic of LASIK to South Africa. His valued contribution is still honored with an annual Kritzinger memorial lectureship award awarded by the ISRS (International Society of Refractive Surgeons). He contributed to a number of Lasik text books eg. Art of lasik.
The Kritzinger Memorial Lectureship Award in memory of Michiel Kritzinger, MD April 28, 2000 was established to honor his scientific and clinical accomplishments. Dr. Kritzinger died tragically in a helicopter crash.
Each year, a recipient is chosen who embodies the clinical, educational, and investigative qualities of Dr. Kritzinger to advance the international practice of refractive surgery.
After his tragic death, his passion and dedication was continued by Dr Michael. A Muller who continued his practice. It is during this time that Dr Michiel S Kritzinger’s nephew Dr. Daniel J Kritzinger and Dr. Hein van Wyk a friend of the family joined the surgical team at Visiomed to honor the passion and cement the goals of Visiomed’s founding father Dr Michiel S Kritzinger.
