ABOUT US
The Oticon story starts with one man’s passion to help his wife lead a better life, unhindered by her hearing loss. This passion to empower people in need of hearing support is what drove us through last century, what drives us now, and what will take us into the next.
Our market
The number of people in need of hearing support is predicted to increase by one third per generation over the coming century.
There is currently estimated to be about 500 million people worldwide suffering from hearing loss.
Most people with hearing loss are over the age of 50, but around 8 out of every 100 people with hearing loss are under the age of 18.
Our group
Oticon designs and manufactures both hearing solutions for adults, and specialized paediatric instruments, while Oticon Medical produces bone-anchored hearing solutions.
Together, Oticon and Oticon Medical employ more than 3000 people around the world.
Our products are sold through sales offices in 23 countries and some 80 independent distributors worldwide.
Today, people in more than 100 countries around the world are enjoying better hearing with Oticon solutions.
Our way of working
Test panels, end-user visits, in-depth interviews and focus groups are some of the most important research tools we use to gather information about users’ needs and everyday lives.
Our test-user panel includes more than 1,000 users, and a group of test-users are attached to each product development cycle, and are involved from the analysis phase, right through to product testing.
Our core competencies
25 scientists at Eriksholm International Research Centre, dedicated to R&D and user insight.
615 employees at Kongebakken, Denmark, including nearly 350 Product and Technology Development specialists.
An award-winning production facility in Thisted, Denmark, employing almost 380 people.
400 people at Oticon Polska Production, including 60 specialised software engineers.
1200+ people in sales and service functions around the globe.
Our many specialised employees work within four core focus areas: Audiology, Technology, Counselling & Fitting and Business Support.
Our products and services
Each year, Oticon invests a substantial proportion of annual sales and turnover into research and development activities.
Among our many firsts are DigiFocus (world’s first fully digital hearing device), MultiFocus (world’s first fully automatic), Adapto (world’s first with artificial intelligence) and most recently Agil, which is Oticon’s most sophisticated hearing solution to date.
Oticon supports all products with a selection of interactive multi-media materials to guide and assist the professionals dealing with our products, and the people using our hearing care solutions.
Our results
We are today amongst the three largest providers of hearing care solutions.
Since 1991, we have won well over 20 awards for corporate and developmental achievements.
As a part of William Demant Holding, Oticon is listed on NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen.
Despite the challenging financial environment, we were able to declare a turnover of DKK 8.6 billion and an operating profit of 1.7 billion DKK in our Annual Report of 2012.
