ABOUT US
The history of the Premier Classe goes as far back as 2001, when the Premier Classe operated with only two coaches hooked onto the Transkaroo (Johannesburg – Cape Town – Johannesburg) Tourist service. During that period, the Premier Classe only accommodated 28 passengers.
Due to the change in travel patterns and accelerated demand from customers a full Premier Classe train set between Johannesburg and Cape Town was launched in May 2006 with increased frequency and capacity accommodating a maximum of 84 passengers. It did not end there - To keep abreast of today’s technology, a refurbished Premier Classe set was introduced in November 2007, with additional features such as technological sophistication in its new dining/lounge cars, conference coach and a smoking lounge that is equipped with a plasma screen and DVD player, more spacious compartments, and well appointed bathrooms to name but a few new additions.
The Premier Classe is a luxury long distance rail service of Prasa Rail – a service of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and operates on the following routes: (1). Johannesburg – Cape Town – Johannesburg; (2). Johannesburg – Durban - Johannesburg; (3). Johannesburg – Port Elizabeth – Johannesburg.
