Graeme Gibson
Graeme Gibson has pleasure in announcing the publication of Path of Duty, the story of 16 Squadron, South African Air Force from South West Africa to Cyrenaica, 1939 to 1943.
Path of Duty is the first volume in a trilogy spanning the Squadron’s existence in the Second World War and follows the Squadron’s fortunes from the declaration of war in 1939 to the end of 1943 when it prepares to re-equip with the Bristol Beaufighter. In addition to the early coastal patrol period in South West Africa in the opening months of the war, it covers the little known campaigns in Abyssinia, Madagascar and the months covering the invasions of Sicily and Italy. It is filled with anecdotes from veterans backed up with detailed research and official documents.
Path of Duty has an evocative narrative supported by 500 photographs, many published for the first time. Numerous colour plates and beautiful illustrations by two of South Africa’s foremost aviation artists were specially commissioned by the author and enhance what is essential reading for SAAF and military enthusiasts alike.
