ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jenny Boon-van Houwelingen was born in 1975 in Pretoria, South Africa. She graduated in 1997 in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria. During her studies she received several awards. From her high school days until present she is giving art classes to adults and children. From 1998 to 2005 she stayed in the Netherlands. The forests in the area where she lived became the inspiration for much of her work, especially the play of light in the foliage. In the Netherlands she found inspiration among a group of contemporary artists called the Northern Realists. Since 2005 she stays again in South Africa with her husband and four children. Looking for a substitute for painting the European forests, she began painting Jacarandas.
As her husband did a PhD study on mission history, they visited many mission stations. These places became a favourite subject in her art.
