The Cradle is a 3000 Hectare Nature Reserve situated in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site a short distance from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa.
Rolling highveld grassland dotted with islands of sinkhole forest, valleys with indigenous bushlined streams, and textured dolomite rock formations. The Private Nature Reserve, which extends over 3000 hectares, is natural habitat for over thirty mammal species and a rich diversity of other fauna and flora.
In acknowledging the worth of the Cradle, as part of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, and for its own natural beauty and diversity, we dedicate ourselves to:
Conserving the fauna and flora and all natural features within The Cradle
Protecting palaeontological and archaeological sites as part of the cultural heritage of South Africa
Achieving and Maintaining a harmonious balance between the natural order and human activities
Developing business structures and promoting tourism for the benefit of the community of the cradle as a whole
Adhering to high ethical standards at all times with regard to all activities and structures associated with The Cradle
Sharing all that The Cradle has to teach us, and encouraging a sense of wonder through discovery and knowledge
