About Us
History
Artists Under the Sun was founded in 1960 by a group of artists who had a vision of bringing 'fine art to the people' by holding regular open-air exhibitions.
From humble beginnings, Artists Under the Sun has grown into the largest out-door fine art exhibition in Southern Africa!
Non-Profit
Artists Under the Sun is a non-profit organisation.
Income is generated from annual subscriptions, commission on sales and entrance fees for open exhibitions.
Governance
Member-elected committee with chair and vice-chair.
Each member may only stand for three years at a time.
A full-time secretary is the only permanent member of staff.
Membership
Consists of both amateur and professional artists.
Annual Membership fees (for 2013) are R700.00 for people under the age of 60 and R600.00 for people above 60.
Artists under the Sun takes a 10% commission on each artwork sold.
Selection
Selection of artists is done by a panel consisting of fellow artists and external judges to ensure a consistent high quality of fine art.
Selection takes place twice a year at open exhibitions for any aspiring artist interested in becoming a member.
