Moyo is the realisation of one man's passion for all things African - from art and design to music, cuisine and crafts. In 1998, Jason Lurie started moyo as a small 120-seater restaurant in Norwood, Johannesburg, serving exceptional African cuisine amidst soulful vibes.
Today, live African music and sophisticated African dining are the benchmarks of the eight evocative moyo establishments. In 2002, stylish moyo Melrose Arch rose from its granite bedrock to five enchanting levels offering diverse fine-dining experiences to privileged guests.
Then the winelands of the Western Cape called our name, and magical moyo Stellenbosch emerged - surrounded by ancient oak trees. On Spier Wine Estate, moyo treats guests to a supreme African-inspired buffet, under a canopy of stars and Bedouin tents - or in an ethereal tree house - all nestled in lush gardens.
But moyo is ever changing, and moyo Zoo Lake, Johannesburg, opened as a tranquil retreat on the water's edge. It's a place to enjoy soul food or cocktails under African sunsets, as the children play safely nearby.
And elegant moyo Fountains, Pretoria, is at the heart of iconic Groenkloof Nature Reserve, and is inspired by cool natural springs.
Coastal offerings are both east and west. Balmy moyo uShaka in Durban is a tropical east coast wonderland with sweeping sea views, while the Pier Bar nearby stands with its feet in the Indian Ocean - giving guests a sense of sailing out to sea.
Cosmopolitan moyo Blouberg is also right on the water's edge, with panoramic vistas west over the cool Atlantic - and acclaimed heritage sites Table Mountain and Robben Island.
All these diverse moyo venues embody the modern, vibrant soul of Africa through evocative cuisine and inspired entertainment - but also through moyo Retail, which offers shoppers handcrafted jewelry and classic keepsakes from Africa. The full moyo experience can now also be enjoyed away from the eight venues, through moyo Functions, while unique children's parties are created through moyo Kids.
