What you can expect . Firstly you will notice that we do not take off from a mountain, instead we are pulled up into the air by a microlight.
Our tandem hang gliders are fitted with wheels to make the take off and
landings easy and safe, the microlight will tow the tandem hang glider up to 2000 feet where the tandem pilot will release from the tow line and glide freely back down to the airfield. The flight usually lasts between 20 and 25 minutes.
Airborne and climbing to 2000 feet. The Microlight trike we use to pull us into the air is called an Airborne Edge, It is purposely built for the job of aerotowing hang gliders. We use a 4mm thick Dynema rope which is 75 meters long. The rope attaches through the centre of the propeller drive shaft on the trike side by means of a quick release system and then attaches to a the tandem pilot by another quick release system built onto the tandem glider.
