SSEM Mthembu Medical is a distributor of electro-medical devices and medical consumables throughout Southern Africa.
Specialised Systems Electro Medical (SSEM) was formed in 1987, with a focus on the electrophysiology and respiratory markets. By 2000, after SSEM had expanded its product base to include ultrasound imaging and medical consumable products, the company’s position as a leader in Sub-Saharan Africa was firmly established. In the same year, SSEM contracted Mthembu Medical (Pty) Limited to manage its warehouse, logistical and technical support requirements nationally.
In May 2006 the two companies merged and now trade as SSEM Mthembu Medical (Pty) Ltd. We have consolidated our infrastructures with the aim of improving efficiency.
SSEM Mthembu Medical is now fully compliant with industry standards at all levels including the requirements of the Health Care Charter and Broad Based Black Empowerment regulations. 28% of the company is held by a black empowerment entity.
SSEM Mthembu provides specialised equipment to meet the stringent expectations of specialist physicians, private clinics and hospitals - including operating theatres, critical care, high care units, trauma and emergency care. We also cater for the occupational health and home care sectors.
Our state of the art equipment is complemented by a vast range of medical consumables.

Integrated Logistics
SSEM Mthembu Medical runs a well-maintained vehicle fleet which ensures prompt and efficient delivery and service. Our national distribution network consists of six offices, each offering sales, clinical, technical and logistical support. Other Southern African markets in Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe are supported by local distributor networks.
SSEM Mthembu Medical has over 7000 square metres of space in five major distribution centres across South Africa. Operations are based on internationally accepted accounting and administration systems, a digital stock control system and an online national network.
Installation
The company provides full installation, followed by comprehensive application support, giving its customers and users peace of mind. This includes the provision of clinical and training expertise through consultation, installation and on-site training. The cycle of support is maintained with the continuous upgrading and extension of equipment and facilities.
SSEM Mthembu Medical engineers are proficient in all types of computer-based installations and networking, which comply with the patient safety requirements of the medical device industry. With more than twenty years of experience in the field, SSEM Mthembu Medical is able to deliver on the most technically challenging and complicated installations.

Test equipment and sophisticated repair aids, in addition to highly accurate information, give SSEM Mthembu Medical a leading edge. Each satellite office is set up to perform repairs either in the field, or at its fully-equipped repair facility
