Choose the Physiotherapy and Alternative Health Practice, where professionalism and friendliness go hand in hand.
The perception of health and healing is currently undergoing a major change. People are moving towards a more holistic approach to healing. Therapist and clients alike have been amazed at the results obtained when using simple alternative therapy techniques. Medical professionals are starting to recognise these therapies as viable options in the treatment of many disorders. Linda Dittmar and Warren Driscoll are two physiotherapists who have trained in Cranio-Sacral Therapy and The Bowen Technique respectively. They have both found these forms of therapy to be extremely beneficial in their work.
Working from a beautiful garden cottage we offer both Cranio-Sacral Therapy and The Bowen Technique as well as a Physiotherapy service, with our associate Nicola Milns. We also offer myofascial release, acupuncture and kinesiology (“yellow page wedges”, taping and balancing) within the scope of physiotherapy.
If you or someone you know is suffering from pain or other disorders such as ADD, sinusitis, headaches etc., and have tried numerous treatment options without relief, you may be wondering “WHAT’S THE ALTERNATIVE?” Why don’t you contact us to see if perhaps our alternative approach to treatment may be beneficial?
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy stimulates the body to heal by addressing distortions of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) which is produced in the brain and travels around the nervous system.
CSF is pumped around the body by movements of the cranium (skull) and the sacrum (bottom of the spine) producing the Craniosacral rhythm which the therapist picks up through gentle holding of the head, abdomen, lower back and legs. During treatment clients may feel a movement of the part being held, twitches or even a wave-like motion. Others report deep relaxation or a feeling of floating. The reactions vary. Clients have reported feeling emotional, relaxed, nauseas, exhausted or even a temporary worsening of their symptoms.
Craniosacral therapy has been known to help with ADD, colic, learning disorders, asthma, sinusitis, headaches, infertility and many medically undiagnosed physical or emotional traumas.
The Bowen Technique
The Bowen Technique is a very gentle, manual therapy involving a sequence of specific “rolling” type moves over various points on the body.
A treatment lasts from 30 to 50 minutes and is done through light clothing, although the therapist may prefer to work directly on the skin in certain cases. An important point about this therapy is the use of short breaks between sets of moves, here the therapist leaves the room for 2 to 5 minutes.
The aim of this treatment is to stimulate the body’s inherent healing by sending different signals to the brain (as opposed to pain, pressure or spasm, the brain receives a “flick” sensation) encouraging it to investigate further, allowing it to pick up subtle imbalances that it may have been too busy to notice before. This is why the breaks are so important – they allow the body to respond.
Often only 2 or 3 sessions are needed, about a week apart. The Technique can be used to safely treat many problems including back pain, sports injuries, sinus problems, asthma, frozen shoulders, headaches and stress to mention a few.
