ABOUT US
Physiotherapy is a form of Medical practice that is aimed at producing healing, treating pain and stiffness and improving function. At Body Brilliance we practice manual therapy, which means we use hands on techniques to bring about changes in the neuro-musculo- skeletal structures (nerves, muscles, joints, fascia.) we also use exercises and posture changes to alter tissue tension, bringing about strength in weakened muscles and flexibility in tight nerves, fascia, and muscles. Whatever we do is based on careful, accurate assessment.
Firstly, we do an intensive subjective interview and ascertain what the exact problems are that the patient we are treating is struggling with. We need to understand what the person we are treating wants out of having treatment and together we decide on a problem list, a plan of action, goals for our treatment and a re-evaluation strategy.
Our next step is to do a careful objective assessment which is based on observation of posture, movement quality and function ( eg. The ability to transfer weight, or change position, get dressed etc). We are comparing what we are seeing to what we expect to see in a person of a similar age, and also with the opposite side of that person’s body. We will reassess after each technique to see whether our treatment has been effective and if it has made a significant difference, we will use the result of our re-assessment to prove our hypothesis and make our diagnosis.
We are strong believers in working as a team with our patients. We do our part and the patient has to do their part, by communicating effectively, doing their exercises and home program and making the necessary lifestyle adjustments that are required to help reduce the strain on the damaged structures. If we do not change the behavior as ‘requested’, we must be prepared for the pain to remain or even increase. Our job is to give the patient the knowledge and the tools to help them.
