ABOUT US
WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Physiotherapy is a primary health care profession which aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments. Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques to help muscles and joints work to their full potential. Treatment can help repair damage by optimizing the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness. Physiotherapists play an important role in rehabilitation, be it following a sports injury, a car accident or a neurological event such as a stroke. Physiotherapists don’t just offer treatment; they offer advice and education that can help prevent problems from returning or even from happening in the first place.
Physiotherapy is a protected profession in South Africa and we are classed as first line practitioners. This means that you do not need a doctor’s referral to attend physiotherapy.
OUR PRACTICE
Situated in the Office Tower of Sandton City, Sports & Spinal Physiotherapy was founded in 2003 when Marianne returned from London and took over a small practice from a physiotherapist who was relocating. The practice received a fresh make over literally and figuratively, had its opening hours extended, and has grown from strength to strength since. It is now well established, thanks largely to a strong word-of-mouth referral base, and is well positioned to serve the commercial and residential hub surrounding Sandton City.
The practice currently consists of two physiotherapists and a receptionist/practice manager, who keeps us all on our toes!
WHY SPORTS & SPINAL PHYSIOTHERAPY?
At Sports & Spinal Physiotherapy, we’ll give you one-on-one treatment sessions and ensure you have our full attention.
We believe in a holistic and predominately hands-on approach… No machines!
We will treat your pain but will also look carefully at how you move and will coach you how best to sit, stand, bend etc. These basic preventative skills will not only improve your stability and control but help to prevent future problems.
We believe in working together and will give you all the advice and education you need to properly manage your condition so that you don’t have to keep on coming back for treatment.
We will not waste your time or your money! If you don’t show clear signs of getting better within a reasonable period of time we will explain our position and refer you on to a first rate specialist.
We are committed to ongoing professional development as well as the practice of evidence-based physiotherapy.
Our physiotherapists are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) as well as the SASP (South African Society of South Africa) and are OMT1 and SPT1 qualified.
