ABOUT US
Tiffindell Ski Resort is the only ski resort in South Africa.
Ben McDhui peak is the highest point in the Cape at 3001m above sea level. The resort nestles snugly on its slope at 2720m, making you our guest in the highest resort in South Africa!
The carefully selected position of the resort, on the south facing slope of the highest mountain in the Cape, ensures that the snow lasts, extending the time available for snow skiing. Slopes cleared and groomed during summer quickly transform to ski runs after even the lightest of snowfalls.
State of the art snowmaking equipment guarantees snow for over 100 days, and two modern snow grooming machines service the 2.3 hectares of ski area.
Our snow guns can blast 120,000 litres of water per hour, covering the entire main slope with 20cm of snow within 24 hours.
We can accommodate about 150 guests in well-appointed, heated timber chalets, ranging from budget to luxury accommodation. The resort at Tiffindell offers 3 and 4 night ski and snowboard packages.
Our Ice Station 2720 is the highest pub in South Africa.
There is MTN, Vodacom and Cell C coverage at the resort.
WHAT TO BRING
Everyone should have a pair of goggles. They keep the sun, wind and snow out of the eyes and help with Sun Safety. Make sure you take lots of warm socks (good quality natural fibre: cotton, angora etc.) and don't forget the sweaters. Winter boots are a must, with liners and extra insoles that will keep feet warm for outdoor activities. Mittens are best for younger children as they keep the fingers warmer by keeping fingers together. Gloves or mittens that are water resistant (they have a plastic layer inside) are best. Consider bringing an extra pair with you to leave in the locker or car for young children!
Layered use of a coat and sweaters will serve better than one large coat. Children's coats should not have drawstrings, CHECK TO ENSURE THAT THESE ARE REMOVED. They can get caught on equipment and pose a strangulation risk. Thermal underwear or long johns dry quickly and absorb perspiration. Bring a mix of winter and autumn clothing as some days are mild.
Sunscreen is a must on any winter holiday, as is lip balm and a good moisturiser. Don't forget the camera/camcorder to record those holiday memories, as well as cellphone chargers. A basic medical kit including any OTC or prescription medication is recommended.
