The word “Kunkuru” means Roan antelope in Tswana, the predominant language of the area. The Malaria free Northwest Province of South Africa is a vast area of bushveld dotted with great many game reserves of varying sizes. One of the most distinctive is a farm named Kunkuru, thirty kilometres north of the town of Brits on the R511 Thabazimbi road.
The land here is predominantly flat bushveld with characteristic rocky granite outcorps (the Afrikaans name for the area is Rooikoppies meaning “Red Hills) and the vegetation is dominated by acacia thorn trees. The climate is hot in summer(September – March, 29 – 36 oC) and mild in winter (April – August 15 – 28 oC ) with an average rainfall of 650mm per annum.

Here a wide variety of game including Buffalo and general plains game exist in beautiful mixed savannah grasslands and thickets of indigenous bushveld. Hippo and Crocodile occur in the dams on the ranch. Kunkuru is one of the few ranches where Lions are legally kept and also boasts a successful Buffalo and Sable breeding programme."
African styled thatched chalets with en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning will be your accommodation for your entire stay. The lodge consist of six chalets, sleeping 2/4 people, two dining areas, an open deck with an open fireplace, bar and lounge areas and a swimming pool.
