Kanhym was founded in 1936 by the Kahn and Hyman families with maize production and cattle feedlotting as the primary operations. Today Kanhym is a private multi-disciplined organization owned by the Zambli Group.
Our head office is situated on a nearly 10 000 ha farm on the skirts of Middelburg, Mpumalanga. It is Kanhym's business philosophy to reduce its financial risk through a program of diversification but still retain the benefit inherent to economy of scale. Therefore Kanhym has 6 main production divisions supported by the necessary specialised service departments.
Kanhym Agronomy plants 6000ha annually with the main crops being maize and soya beans. These are used by Kanhym Feeds for the production of animal feeds. Kanhym Feeds manufactures 250 000 tons of both ruminant and monogastric animal feed per year. We produce top quality feed for cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, poultry, game and dogs. Feed from the 4 Kanhym Feed Mills is distributed nationwide by a network of depots, who supply feed either in bags or bulk.
Kanhym Livestock takes pride in breeding outstanding quality weaner calves. The Kanhym Feedlots finishes lambs and calves and provides contract feeding opportunities to farmers.
Kanhym Piggeries focuses on two main divisions: Commercial Pig Production and Pig Genetics. The former produces large quantities of exceptional quality healthy pork to the South African pork chain by adhering to strict quality control and animal welfare standards. PIC (Pig Improvement Company) is the world’s largest and most progressive swine genetics organization. Kanhym is the sole supplier of PIC genetics in SA and Africa as a whole. The PIC breeding animals are produced in order to supply Kanhym’s own commercial piggeries with continuously improved genetic material and also to provide world class PIC breeding gilts, boars and semen to commercial pig farmers across Africa.
Kanhym’s Abattoir and Fresh Meat businesses complete this efficient supply chain, where quality meat products are produced and supplied to the public.
