History
Since graduating in 1991 in Home Economics (Clothing and Interior) from the University of Pretoria Hanlie gained experience in the industry by working for two decorators in South Africa. Four and a half years had been with a member of the South African Guild of Interior Designers. Jointly with the owner they designed the interiors of many homes official residences, embassies, and various commercial buildings.
The highlight of her career in these four years was the publication of her work in the April1997 issue of the influential monthly South African Garden and Home. While working here all the staff members attended the 1995 Decorex in London.
She spent almost three years (May 1997 – March 2000) residing in Bangkok Thailand. She started her own interior consultancy in the security ‘expat’ community where she lived.
Upon returning to South Africa in 2000 she started her own business.
Being passionate about fabrics with no compromise on workmanship she identified the need for an in-house workshop. Her workshop boasts qualified seamstresses.
In 2003 the University of Pretoria contacted Hanlie as lecturer for the course Interior Production on first and second year level. She was contracted in 2004 to lecture this to third year level as well. She was again contracted in 2005 for these courses and responsibilities. Engel & Völkers, a well known international investment and real estate company, was sponsoring nine up and coming decorators during the influential Rooms on View décor show of 2005. Hanlie had been chosen as one of those decorators.
After the exposure of this show Hanlie was contacted by the MNet décor show Dekor, to shoot a few themed programs with them. She did four programs with the producer. The first was on detail, the second on different window treatments, the third on the importance of a top treatment to curtains and this year the program was on how to implement the design principles when you have a clean canvas….
In 2006 Hanlie has moved her business to bigger premises. Starting to substantiate a dream of having an open factory where customers can see how they go about producing the product.
